This module develops the concept of the “Hospitality Professional”, its meaning for you and how this impacts your career. The aim of this module is to develop a sound basis for understanding the role of the hospitality professional, and the various working environments associated with the industry and to be able to use this knowledge to prepare for the transition from university to professional life and career development.

This module is designed to develop your understanding of the principles of entrepreneurship and small business development. It introduces you to key concepts in entrepreneurship and small business development. In addition, it introduces the role of small business in an ever-changing environment that deals with uncertainty, innovation, and sustainability.

The purpose of this module is to introduce you to the entrepreneurial business landscape in terms of types of entrepreneurial ventures, business functions, financing and funding an entrepreneurial enterprise. You will assess external environmental factors that present opportunities and challenges for hospitality entrepreneurship and in doing so be alert to emerging sector trends. This will also take into consideration principles of creativity, design and innovation that are central to an entrepreneurial position that is responsive, resilient, and robust.

The purpose of this module is to introduce you to the human resource management element of manging people and culture in a hotel setting, and in doing so taking into consideration local, regional, national and international values. You will explore different corporate cultures in hotel management and the diversity of the workforce in the international hotel industry.

In this module you will examine theoretical models as well as tools and techniques used for developing and establishing strong brands and to leverage communication resources to sell the brand message and build brand equity. You will develop a thorough understanding of brand strategies and you will explore the concepts of brand storytelling and brand personas.

This module provides an experiential application of enterprise, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship and focuses on the practical exploration of concepts of creativity, innovation, negotiation and value creation. The Hospitality Enterprise Game module aims to provide you with the experience of developing and validating a business idea to proof of concept/launch stage, developing awareness of business and value creation, knowledge of the value and utility of enterprising behaviours, skills and attributes and gain insights into personal and business growth strategies.

This module aims to provide learners with in-depth knowledge about the main technological and managerial principles behind disruptive innovation and concomitant organisational and social change within the hospitality industry. The module is designed to equip learners with skills and knowledge to confidently analyse the implications of external forces for innovation and evaluate how the latest digital technologies can be used to lead innovation initiatives and the impact these have on the hospitality industry.

The module is designed to analyse current events and what these mean for entrepreneurs and their business. Entrepreneurship forms a vital part of the hospitality industry. Every aspect of the industry, whether it is a restaurant, bar or B&B has its own unique setting and characteristics, which are determined by services on offer and the location of the property.

The aim of this module is to enhance your awareness of business ethics and governance issues associated with decision-making and provides you with the strategies and ‘tools’ to resolve in a moral way, showing integrity and professional conduct in your leadership and management practices. In the module to develop your cognitive reasoning you will also consider unethical behaviour and consequences of this on business, people, society and the industry as whole.

This module aims to develop a critical awareness of leadership theories, models and research and its relationship to other critical organisational behaviour (“O.B”) concepts (such as culture, motivation, learning, attitudes etc.) as applied to the hospitality industry. You will critically evaluate the usefulness of leadership, followership and related organisational behaviour concepts and apply them with discernment in an organisational context.

This module draws upon, and consolidates previous knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course and provides an opportunity to design and conceptualise a unique hospitality business start- up project. The purpose of the module is to further develop your skills, particularly in relation to innovation, market disruption, idea generation and opportunity recognition.

The purpose of this module is to serve as a forum for the advancement and discussion of local and international issues, and a font for many new kinds of insights and intelligences about the business of the international hospitality industry in society. The module is set within a contemporary tone as you critically inspect a range of current issues and problems facing the hospitality industry, and appreciate the significance of hospitality businesses in society.

The purpose of this module is to critically inspect and interpret intercultural management in hospitality settings, and in doing so taking into consideration cultural difference and diversity of the workforce. An interdisciplinary approach is taken to analyse and explore intercultural management practices by gaining insights from anthropology, cultural studies, geography, history, and sociology.
