Fees, Liability and Instalment Dates
Tuition fees
Tuition fees are a key factor for all students thinking about studying at university. It is important you are familiar with how to pay and what support may be available to you.
We charge our tuition fees once a year, at the start of each year of study – and these fees are subject to change annually. Some courses also have additional costs associated with them, and it’s important you familiarise yourself with these so that you can budget accordingly.
You’ll find details of course fees, programme specifications and additional costs for specific courses for UK, EU and international students on our individual course pages. Please use the course search bar to look at the course you’re interested in.
Our agreed fees for 2024-25 (approved by the OfS in February 2023) can be found on this page.
Payments from Sanctioned Countries
All payments made to BNU must be compliant with International Sanction laws. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are not breaching any of these laws when making payments to us.
Paying your fees
When you register on your course you are responsible for ensuring the University receives payment for the tuition fee. Tuition fees become due in full once you have started your course.
Buckinghamshire New University offer all students an option to pay their tuition fee in full or three instalments. Please be aware that we are unable to offer bespoke payment plans.
Self-Funding
For self-financing students, organising the payment of your tuition fees is essential. If you do not pay your fees on time, you may not have access to all of the facilities.
Students are responsible for avoiding any financial risks, such as fraud and phishing emails/links, when paying their tuition fees through a third party on your behalf.
For more information see our page on how to make a payment.
Sponsorship
Students who are being sponsored by an employer should make sure we have this information in writing and before you start your course. You will need to upload this evidence when completing your online enrolment. Confirmation can be in the form of:
- a purchase order
- a sponsorship form: for one student or for several students on the same course
- a signed letter or ELCAS CAN funding letter from the sponsor containing invoicing information and the amount being sponsored.
A copy of the sponsorship form can be emailed to srd@bnu.ac.uk or income@bnu.ac.uk.
Sponsors will receive an invoice for the tuition fees. Fees are due in full 30 days from date of invoice. If your personal sponsor has not paid you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees.
Students on an undergraduate course who are in receipt of tuition funding from student finance or equivalent funding body (Student Awards Agency Scotland, Student finance Wales or Student finance Northern Ireland) will not need to pay tuition fees to the university as these will be paid directly to the university by student finance in 3 instalments throughout each academic year. These dates will be outlined on your student finance entitlement letter.
Funding for Postgraduate students who are in receipt of funding from student finance or equivalent funding body will need to make sure will be responsible for paying the university as most postgraduate funds are paid directly to the student.
More information on student finance can be found here or on the .
If you have applied for a student loan through you must ensure your application is complete in order for the University to receive the funds. You must apply for funding within 9 months of the start of your course. If we do not receive payment of the fees from Student Finance you will become personally liable for the payment of those fees. Make sure you check your Student Finance Account online regularly for updates.
Payments from the Student Loans Company for fully funded students are governed by the Government’s formal regulations. Students should apply online for their loan every year.
If you have not applied for funding or you are not eligible for funding, you will be classified as self-funding and must ensure that all tuition fees are paid to the University.
If no payment has been made by you or student finance against any outstanding tuition instalment, it is likely you will receive an invoice from SRD, followed by a reminder from our income team. If you applied for student finance funding, Âplease send evidence of this to income@bnu.ac.uk so they know you are awaiting action from student finance.
If you are a Postgraduate student with funding from student finance, we would remind you that it is your responsibility to pay your tuition fees with the university in line with your instalment dates.
Take a look at our Student Finance page for more information.
Cooling off period
If for any reason you change your mind about joining the University after you have accepted your offer, Buckinghamshire New University allows a 14-day cooling off period. This applies to all programmes of study including those considered either Distance Learning or Flexible Distributed Learning. The cooling off period starts the start date of the course, which includes Freshers Week for new starters.
If you do choose to withdraw from your course, we will reimburse all payments which have made in respect of the cancelled contract. The reimbursement will be made without undue delay using the same means of payment used for the initial transaction. If you applied and received your student loan, the University will inform the Student Loans Company of the overpayment.
Please refer to the Interruption, Withdrawal or Transfer of Studies Procedure for further information on how to do this.
International students should contact the International Office for advice.
