  • Location: Uxbridge
  • Duration: 15 Weeks
  • Start Date: September 2025 and February 2026
We have a long history of training nurses and giving them the knowledge and practice-based experience they need to provide excellent patient care. This course covers many aspects of caring for cardiac patients and will enhance your skills and ability to work successfully in this field.

Credits: 10 credits at Level 6 and 7.

Why study this subject?

This 10-credit module is aimed at nurses and other healthcare practitioners working in wards, clinics, or GP practices.

You don't need to be a specialist in cardiac care but simply have a desire to learn more about cardiac disease and its management. Unlike the traditional Cardiac Care module there is no requirement to fulfil a book of clinical competencies.

Why study at Buckinghamshire New University?

Led by our experienced and supportive staff, over 15 weeks we'll cover areas like:

  • national guidelines on the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease
  • care of patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes
  • care of patients with stable coronary heart disease
  • heart failure care
  • arrhythmias
  • understanding ECGs
  • cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology
  • relevant pharmacology
  • risk factor assessment
  • blood pressure and lipid management
  • exercise prescription and heart disease
  • cardiac rehabilitation.

If you're looking to enhance your professional development, but don't require credits to put towards a qualification, then you can choose to study this course without credits attached and don't need to complete the final assessment. If you choose this route, you'll receive a certificate of Continuing Professional Development hours which will be valuable for  revalidation purposes.

When will this course run?

This course runs on Wednesdays from 10am - 5pm

What are the course entry requirements?

This course is for registered health care practitioners with a minimum 6 months experience in a relevant cardiac care area.

For Level 6 study you’ll need 120 credits at Level 5 or equivalent. For Level 7 study, 120 credits at Level 6 or the equivalent are required.

You must have the support of your clinical manager and a suitably qualified mentor/assessor.

You'll have the opportunity to work outside your usual clinical area, if necessary, to gain specific clinical competence.
