Why study this subject?

Studying marketing is a perfect way to gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of the marketer and to help develop the analytical and critical thinking skills required to research, design, develop and deploy strategic marketing plans at local and global level. You'll learn how to identify the opportunities to communicate and influence audiences, and spot the threats that could damage brands. You will also build a professional network and a portfolio of practical skills to make your mark in the business world.

Your first year will be integrated with the BA (Hons) Digital Marketing degree. You will be taught a range of modules that cover both courses allowing you to collaborate with a wide group of fellow students. The programme is designed to teach you the theoretical knowledge needed to excel in your future job role alongside the ‘soft skills’ needed to work collaboratively, problem solve and creatively approach workplace projects.

As part of the second year consultancy module, you will work in a team with fellow students and create a pitch which you deliver to real local businesses, competing against other student teams to win the contract for the work. You will then act as a real external team for the client, with the project culminating in an exhibition to showcase the work of all students on the course. This module in particular is a great opportunity to develop your skills and get a greater sense of how consultancy projects progress, putting theory into practice.

Other second year modules will go deeper into strategy and planning, including audits and managing resources, as well as topics on delivering an excellent customer experience and optional modules on data analysis and consumer behaviour.

In your final year, you will focus on preparing yourself for your future and career after graduation. In addition to learning about consumer brand relationships and Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) strategy, you will undertake an independent professional project on an area of marketing of your choice. This module will allow you to examine a contemporary business management issue or address a specific organisational management issue whilst using your time management, professionalism, and personal discipline skills. You'll also have a choice of additional modules which match your interests, including studying e-commerce strategy or strategic agility.

In addition to your studies, the BNU School of Business and Law regularly holds events to enrich your university experience and enhance your employability, such as a management fair, recruitment events, and alumni networking social meetings.
