Our course includes components such as the 'Applied Research for Healthcare Practice' module and equips you with advanced research methodologies. This is a flexible programme of study which will suit experienced practitioners as well as those who registered more recently, and a number of students will have previous appropriate qualifications from Buckinghamshire New University.

What will I study?

The modules within this course focus on the following topics:

  • Research
  • Leadership
  • Innovative clinical practice from a contemporary perspective
  • Speciality clinical modules.

This will enable you to innovatively lead, direct and enhance clinical practice, whilst expanding the evidence base for your own area of practice. In order for you to deliver appropriate interventions aimed at the management of patients, the course structure will focus on the evidence for a range of assessment skills and therapeutic management strategies. You will also be able to synthesise contemporary initiatives in relation to current practice and service delivery to creatively provide a safe and effective service.

This course offers you:

  • flexible study relevant to your current area of practice
  • range of optional Level 7 theoretical and
  • clinical modules
  • opportunities to develop practice based projects
  • skills in leadership and management in clinical practice settings.

During the course you will be required to complete:

  • Five option modules (100 credit total)
  • Core research module (20 credit total)
  • Practice-based project (60 credits)

How will I be taught and assessed?

A range of teaching strategies will be employed throughout the course, with each module assessed.

At BNU, we recognise roles in this field are hands-on – that’s why you’ll take part in simulated learning experiences using our specialised facilities dedicated to nursing at our Uxbridge campus.

What are the course entry requirements?

Normally a first degree will be required. However, experienced healthcare professionals with evidence of recent successful study at Level  6 will be considered. Students will have a healthcare background and currently be in clinical practice.

What are the tuition fees

  • Home, Academic Year 2025 - 2026: £10,110 per year *

Following the Government’s announcement of 4 November 2024, we will be increasing our full-time undergraduate tuition fees for UK students to £9,535 per year from the start of the 2025/26 academic year. Our part-time fees for UK undergraduate students will increase to £7,145 per annum. Please visit , on the Government’s website, for more information about the changes. 

Tuition fees for Home undergraduate students (including with foundation year) may increase in subsequent years for both new and continuing students in line with an inflationary amount determined by the Government.   

Tuition fees for both new and continuing international students may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year.   

Tuition fees for postgraduate courses and CPD may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year. This increase will apply to both new and continuing students.

The enhanced skills of analysis that you will gain through this programme of study may lead to promotional opportunities either in the clinical area, or in the fields of education, management or research. You will also have access to progress on to doctoral studies in your specific subject context, and the generic, transferable skills acquired throughout the programme may also open up employment opportunities outside these areas.
