This short course will provide you with everything you need to start introducing positive psychology in all you do, with a focus on a coaching setting.
Positive Psychology has gained momentum in recent years due to the increased popularity and importance of mental health and wellbeing. As a result, coaching practice is more in demand than ever before.
The course comprises of online teaching, utilizing lectures, experiential group work, co-coaching, individual, group presentations and continuous feedback. Our approach ensures that you can apply positive psychology principles effectively within coaching at different coaching levels.
Designed for practical skill development, the course encourages you to engage in coaching exercises between sessions. There is no formal assessment, allowing you to concentrate on applying learned techniques in real-world scenarios without the pressure of examinations.
The course is part of the offerings by the Centre for Positive Psychology, which focuses on developing a coaching culture to support learning and development. This partnership provides you with access to a broader community dedicated to applying positive psychology in various professional settings.

The course is approved by the International Society in Coaching Psychology and the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
What facilities can I use?
We want you to use our facilities to push your skills and gain all the experience you feel you need to go on and get a job, as what you do here is what you could be doing when you start work in Psychology, whether this is as simple as a word processor or excel sheet, we provide the space you need.
We’ll also sign you up to our Virtual Learning Environment which means you’ll have access to lots of online resources wherever you are. The VLE is an additional online learning platform that supplements your core degree content.
What will I study?
Positive psychology is centred on theories and research involving understanding and developing wellbeing, optimal functioning and positive traits like hope, resilience and flourishing.
The science of positive psychology can provide an evidence-based framework around a high standard of coaching practice. Whilst good coaching practices involve forming co-created relationships with clients, the application of positive psychology tools, techniques and approaches within coaching sessions can provide profound and unique benefits.
You’ll be introduced to these concepts and tools throughout the course and will be given the chance to practice them yourself, really embedding your understanding of the theory and practical application of what you’re learning.
How will I be taught and assessed?
This short course involves 48 hours of online teaching through lectures, experiential group work, co-coaching, individual and group presentations and continual feedback.
You’re encouraged to carry out coaching exercises between sessions, however there is no formal assessment for this course and it does not include any formal academic credits.
On successful completion of this short course you’ll receive a certificate of attendance from BNU contributing to CPD hours.

- Saturday 8 March 2025 - hybrid session - can attend either online or in-person at BNU High Wycombe Campus - 9.30am to 4pm (UK time).

Following the Government’s announcement of 4 November 2024, we will be increasing our full-time undergraduate tuition fees for UK students to £9,535 per year from the start of the 2025/26 academic year. Our part-time fees for UK undergraduate students will increase to £7,145 per annum. Please visit , on the Government’s website, for more information about the changes.
Tuition fees for Home undergraduate students (including with foundation year) may increase in subsequent years for both new and continuing students in line with an inflationary amount determined by the Government.  
Tuition fees for both new and continuing international students may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year.  
Tuition fees for postgraduate courses and CPD may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year. This increase will apply to both new and continuing students.
