You'll learn to use specialist industry software, such as Jupyter Notebook, E-Views, and IBM SPSS. Apart from time spent learning in classes, you will have 24/7 access to this software throughout your time on the MSc Finance and Investment programme. What will I study?
Studying MSc Finance and Investment will prepare you for a career as a qualified expert or a senior management professional. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics to provide an advanced understanding of the finance industry.
You will learn about corporate finance, focusing on capital structure, financing decisions, and strategies for maximizing shareholder value. The asset and portfolio management component of the course will explore techniques for managing investment portfolios, asset allocation, and performance evaluation. In the financial derivatives course, you will gain insights into options, futures, and swaps. Financial management will provide an understanding of financial planning, analysis, and decision-making within organizations. Risk management will teach you methods for identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks.
You will also develop skills in constructing financial models to support decision-making and strategy formulation in financial modelling, and you will cover how to analyse financial data, using statistical and quantitative methods to inform investment strategies and decision making with data analysis.
In addition to these topics, the degree focuses on developing employability skills by helping you to establish links with industry professionals, organising external visits, and enhancing digital skills through the use of financial software and databases. You'll also cultivate personal and interpersonal skills, gain confidence in solving complex problems, and learn to implement genuinely effective solutions in real-world scenarios.


How will I be taught and assessed?
You will engage in interactive lectures and seminars featuring discussions, group work, and practical exercises to enhance understanding. You will participate in hands-on projects that simulate real-world challenges and attend workshops with industry experts to gain insights into current trends in finance and investment. Additionally, group projects will help you develop teamwork and collaboration skills.
Assessment Methods are designed to evaluate both your theoretical understanding and practical skills. Coursework will develop your numerical, analytical, and critical thinking abilities. Examinations will enhance your exam skills and time management, reflecting professional assessment standards. Presentations and group work will build your soft skills, essential for career success. You may also work on practical projects and live briefs from companies to solve real business problems.
What are the course entry requirements?
- Applicants to the programme will normally have obtained a Bachelor’s degree with Honours (or equivalent) which can be in a range of subject disciplines or professions. Applicants need a minimum of a 2:2 in their degree to be considered.
- If your first language is not English or your language of instruction at undergraduate level was not English you will be required to demonstrate English proficiency at an overall score of IELTS level 6.5 (or its equivalent) and no score below 6.0 in any category.
- In line with the university Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme, potential learners can apply for Advanced Standing by Accreditation of Prior Learning.
If you do not meet the entry requirements you may, if you have relevant professional experience, still be invited for interview, where you will be required to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and understanding for entry onto the course.
Previous study, professional and / or vocational experiences may be recognised as the equivalent learning experience and permit exemption from studying certain modules in accordance with our accreditation of prior learning (APL) process.

Following the Government’s announcement of 4 November 2024, we will be increasing our full-time undergraduate tuition fees for UK students to £9,535 per year from the start of the 2025/26 academic year. Tuition fees for Home undergraduate students (including with foundation year) may increase in subsequent years for both new and continuing students in line with an inflationary amount determined by the Government.  
Tuition fees for both new and continuing international students may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year.  
Tuition fees for postgraduate courses and CPD may be subject to an inflationary increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the 12-month period to 31 January each year. This increase will apply to both new and continuing students.
