Shaheeda Bernard

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2024, I was working as full time Physician Associate across 6 Primary Care Surgeries. Prior to re-training to become a PA I worked for Imperial College Healthcare Trust's Clinical Research Network conducting both pharmaceutical and non-commercial clinical trials spanning over 30 medical specialties and before this I worked as a Paediatric Speech and Language therapist with children aged 0-5.

I have 3 qualifications which allow me to have a holistic approach to my clinical work and approach in health care settings, this will also influence my teaching style. I studied for my BSc in Speech and Language Sciences at City University London, my MSc in Health Psychology was undertaken at Middlesex University and my latest MSc in Physician Associate Studies was completed at Buckinghamshire New University. My specialist area of interest is Geriatric and Reproductive Medicine; I am passionate about maternal health disparities in the UK.

I am a member of the Royal College of Physicians- Faculty of Physician Associates (PAMVR).

My generalist medical knowledge has led me to work with businesses focussing on health promotion, specifically in women's health, to speak at STEMM conferences promoting the PA profession and motivating younger people in making appropriate career choices. I have also worked as a deputy head researcher for charities such the QSB foundation and I am an Alumni of the Windsor Fellowship.

I am fortunate to say I have experienced and achieved a lot, but my greatest accolade to date is passing my Physician Associate degree and being able to work in in the profession alongside being able to help students to also get to this position and to become great clinicians whilst doing so.
