Biography

Prior to my appointment at Buckinghamshire New University in 2018, I held the positions of Research Associate and University Teacher within the Sports Biomechanics and Motor Control Research Group at Loughborough University. My research primarily focused on the behavior of sports bras and sportswear on the human body.

I obtained my PhD in Sports Biomechanics and Motor Control (Balance Control in Dance Positions) from Loughborough University. My doctoral research investigated the balance characteristics in various dance styles, positions, and shoe types, with the objective of understanding different balance controls across diverse groups. This research utilised force plates, Electromyography (EMG), and the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN). Prior to relocating to the UK, I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physical Education and Sports Science at Chung-Nam National University in South Korea.

My specialised knowledge facilitated a collaboration with a world leading sportswear company on a research project examining the behavior of sports bras and sportswear on the human body. The aim of this project was to enable women to engage in various activities and enhance their sports performance without experiencing pain or discomfort.

My research interests include balance (static and dynamic balance, fall prevention for the elderly, balance control in dance) within the fields of biomechanics, motor control and exercise science. Additionally, I am interested in research related to injuries and training, dance shoes, sportswear, Taekwondo, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, the effects of fitness and exercise programmes, and fitness garments.

I am a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), as well as an Endorsement Moderator for the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

Outside of my professional work, I am passionate about dance (Latin dance, ballet, jazz dance) and fitness. I have undergone training in Dancesport Latin (Rumba, Cha-cha-cha, Jive, Samba, and Paso-Doble), competed in dance competitions, and possess extensive teaching experience in these Latin dance styles. Furthermore, I hold qualifications in various dance teaching and fitness programmes, including IDTA Latin, Les Mills Body Attack, and Body Balance.
