Staff Profile

Gary Gilkes
Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2024, I was an Associate Professor at Coventry University, leading a portfolio of paramedic programmes. During this period, I developed provisions to be delivered within international institutions. I also hold a position within the College of Paramedics as a Geographical Education Lead for the Midlands area. Joining Buckinghamshire New University will allow me to share best practices and paramedic curriculum from and with Institutions around the world.
I studied Paramedic Science at Swansea University and have been fortunate to be part of the European Implementation Scientific Education Network (EISEN) project at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, where I developed my PhD proposal. my specialist area of interest/research is implementation strategies within complex systems. It is interesting because it has allowed me to understand and review barriers for change within complex systems such as ambulance services, allowing for greater knowledge generation and initiatives to be developed from within the profession, for the profession.
I am a member of the College of Paramedics and a Fellow of Higher Education
My specialist knowledge has led me to work with international institutions such as IIHS in Sri Lanka on projects delivering a paramedic science degree within the country and allowing international recruitment.
My greatest accolade to date/My career highlight is working with the College of Paramedics to develop the 6th edition of the curriculum guidance, programme management, and practice portfolio based assessment.
