Foundation Year Entry Requirements
Academic entry requirements
We require successful completion of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12 with an overall average of 60% or above.
Mathematics entry requirements
Students need the equivalent of GCSE Mathematics grade C/4.
English language requirements
Students are not required to provide an English Certificate if:
- They achieve a score of 70% or above on the English Language subject of a Senior School Certificate Examination from the Central Board of Second Education (CBSE).
These subjects need to have been studied within the past 2 academic years.
Any applicants who do not meet these requirements need to provide a valid English certificate as detailed here. These certificates need to be studied within the past 2 academic years.
Undergraduate Entry Requirements
Academic entry requirements
We require successful completion of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12 with an overall average of 65% or above.
If you do not meet these requirements you may be eligible to study our foundation programme. Please send copies of your qualifications directly to us at International.Admissions@bnu.ac.uk.
GCSE Requirements
We accept the the following grades equivalent to grade B/5 in GCSE
- Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE): B1 and above
- Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE): Grade 3 or 70% and above
We accept the the following grades equivalent to grade C/4 in GCSE
- Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE): C1 and above
- Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE): Grade 5 or 60% and above
English language requirements
- Senior School Certificate Examination from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with a score of 70% or above in English Language
- Higher Secondary Examination Certificate from Government of Kerala Board of Higher Secondary Examinations with a score of 70% or above in English Language
- Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination from Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education with a score of 70% or above in English Language
- Second Year Pre-University Examination from Government of Karnataka Department of Pre-University Education with a score of 70% or above in English Language
- Higher Secondary Certificate Examination from Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education with a score of 75% or above in English Language
- Higher Secondary Examination from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education with a score of 75% or above in English Language
- Senior Secondary Certificate from Delhi Board of School Education with a score of 75% or above in English Language
- Higher Secondary Course Certificate from State Board of School Examinations, Tamil Nadu with a score of 75% or above in English Language.
English language waiver and study gaps for Undergraduate
- 2 years maximum for students completing education in Punjab/Haryana/Uttar Pradesh/Gujarat
- 3 years maximum with mitigating evidence for other areas
Postgraduate Entry Requirements
Academic entry requirements
We require successful completion of a Bachelor degree with an overall pass or above from a UK NARIC-recognised institution.
Mathematics entry requirements
Students need the equivalent of GCSE Mathematics grade C/4.
English language requirements

- Where there are study gaps within these 10 years, evidence of relevant work experience will be requested.

Please note that the entry criteria detailed below is for the majority of courses, however some courses such as BSc (Hons) Nursing, BSc (Hons) Professional Practice (Healthcare), BSc (Hons) Social Work and BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Pilot Training may require higher academic and English levels.
