University pair taking on Three Peaks Challenge for The Children’s Society
An intrepid pair of Buckinghamshire New University staff are taking on the climbing each of the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales in aid of .
Marcus Wood, a Principal Registry Officer, and Julie Irwin, Director of Student Success, at the University in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, will be looking to touch the heady heights of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours from 2-3 July.
They will be walking a total of 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3,064 metres (10,052ft). The total distance driving between the mountains is 462 miles.
Marcus and Julie will be joining students and staff from universities including Loughborough, Exeter, Nottingham, London School of Economics, Warwick, and Northampton, and hope to raise a minimum of £1,200 for The Children’s Society.
The activity has been arranged through the company and Marcus said he and Julie were already in training.
He said: “This is in aid of a fantastic cause and we hope we can raise a significant amount of money. The Children’s Society work directly with children who may be caring for a family member or experiencing exploitation or poverty.
“It’s not going to be easy and we’re under no illusion about the challenge but we’re confident about achieving it.
“We hope that one of the high points will be seeing the sun rise over the peaks of the Lake District as we ascend Scafell. That’s provided of course it doesn’t rain!”
