BNU retains proud position in UK top 20 in the National Student Survey 2024

The 2024 National Student Survey (NSS), undertaken by final-year UK students, has been published today (10 July) and Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) has once again retained its proud position in the UK’s top 20 universities. 

Averaged across all questions for full time, first degrees, BNU is 19th in the UK for student positivity amongst students taught at BNU. BNU also impressively comes 1st in the UK for the positivity of registered students which includes all our students. For taught students, BNU ranks 6th in the UK for positivity about assessment and feedback; 12th for learning opportunities; and 27th for questions relating to teaching. 

Bucks Students’ Union continues its eight-year streak in the top 5, ranking 2nd in the UK amongst full time taught students, and 1st in the UK based on responses from registered students. 

 

At subject level, many BNU courses have performed well for overall student positivity, averaged across all questions, including: 

Dance – 1st  

Education – 1st  

Business Studies – 3rd  

Marketing – 3rd  

Social work – 5th  

Counselling – 5th  

Midwifery – 3rd  

Child nursing – 6th  

Adult nursing – 7th 

Mental health nursing – 7th 

Computer science – 8th 

 

For taught students, BNU also performed strongly in the newest NSS question added in 2023 about the strength of communication around mental wellbeing services (BNU: 87.6% vs 80% sector benchmark). 

 

For all students registered with BNU, the University performed above sector benchmark across all seven question themes:   

Teaching on my course: 91.6% vs 88.4% benchmark 

Learning opportunities: 91.1% vs 87.5% benchmark  

Assessment and Feedback: 89.4% vs 85.2% benchmark  

Academic Support: 90.1% vs 87.2% benchmark  

Organisation and management: 83.2% vs 79.8% benchmark  

Learning resources: 89.4% vs 88.5% benchmark 

Student voice: 85.4% vs 80.7% benchmark

We are delighted that BNU is now the number one ranked University in the UK for the positivity of our registered students and 19th based on the responses of our core students taught at BNU’s campuses. We are also proud that our taught students ranked BNU as 6th best in the UK for assessment and feedback, and 12th for the learning opportunities we provide.
