Programme aims

Resilience and Emergencies Professional is a Level 6 apprenticeship delivered over 36 months and completed with a 6-month end point assessment (EPA) period. The programme is aimed at employees who are or aspire to be Category 1 or 2 responders and those who work in the private, social purpose and public sectors managing risk, hazards and response to major incidents. The programme is interactive, led by academic experts from BNU’s Centre for Security, Intelligence, Resilience who have field experience in response and recovery. Many are published and work with governments and private sector organisations to advise, consult and respond - meaning that learners benefit from theory applied to the practical realities of real world, real time situations. Learners will have the opportunity to develop a professional peer network and will also be eligible for full membership of the Emergency Planning Society upon successful completion.

The programme matches the University’s philosophy and strategy including outward facing, externality and industrial involvement thus providing students with the necessary qualifications to underpin their knowledge and progress in their chosen careers.

Degree apprenticeships combine study and work-based learning to enable apprentices to gain a full degree. They have been co-designed by employers thus ensuring that apprentices are equipped with the skills employers need and look for in their employees.

An apprentice is a paid employee and does not pay any training costs or student fees.

The level of support and services available at Buckinghamshire New University is very impressive. The induction day clearly set out the course systems and sources available with guides on what was covered to refer to, and introductions to lecturers, apprenticeship leads and department leads. The structure of the course, and overview of what will be covered has been clearly laid out with support and sources available through lecturers, Blackboard, the library and Learning and Development team has really helped to build understanding on topics and assignments.
