Buckinghamshire New University’s Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship is based on our successful pre-registration nursing programme and supports employers to develop their healthcare staff towards registration with the , as either adult, child or mental health nurses.  The three pathways have commonality of course modules but content is tailored to either adult, child or mental health nursing.

This apprenticeship is an ideal progression route for Assistant Practitioners and other staff who have completed a relevant foundation degree; some credits may be eligible to carry forward towards a BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult, Child or Mental Health). The 36-month apprenticeship programme is also suitable to develop existing Healthcare Workers who are keen to enrich their careers and achieve Registered Nurse status.  The Apprenticeship programme can also be used to support the recruitment and retention of new staff to your organisation.

Our Uxbridge Campus in West London is where most of our nursing and advanced health science courses take place. A central part of the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship involves making use of our state-of-the-art simulation suites – where your apprentices can practise and hone their skills in realistic clinical environments.

Programme aims

1. Produce registered nurses who meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Standards for the pre-registration nursing education (NMC 2018) and the Standards of proficiency for registered nurses (NMC; 2018), including the European requirements, as set out in Annex 1 Nursing Procedures.

2. Produce registered nurses who can work autonomously taking responsibility and accountability for their own actions whilst playing a vital role in providing, leading and coordinating compassionate and evidence based person-centred care

3. Produce registered nurses who consistently adhere to the precepts of the Code (NMC 2018)

Programme details

The programme matches the University’s philosophy and strategy including outward facing, externality and industrial involvement thus providing students with the necessary qualifications to underpin their knowledge and progress in their chosen careers.
