My Final Major Project story: From plan to final piece
My FMP journey was quite relaxing until it wasn’t. At one point I was a little worried that I was missing some things because it felt strange that I had so much done, and the deadline was still very far away. Don’t get me wrong, it is a good thing to start working on your FMP in advance but at the same time, it gave me a false sense of security which made everything worse before the deadline.
It is important to mention my course – Creative Advertising. We had a few projects going on at the same time so considering how long we had, it was not my priority compared to all the other projects due earlier. However, I did start working on it quite early and then managed to stick with the same ideas which resulted in having quite a lot done compared to my peers.

We were supposed to create three campaigns with the help of our mentors – professionals from the industry. I got loads of feedback and moved quite quickly but superficially. This meant that I had everything planned out and even some things mocked up but did not “fully finish” every single thing. Now I know that was a mistake because I thought I would just quickly put it together once I was happy with everything… which ended up being a week before the deadline.
A week sounds like enough time, but it is not when you have to mock-up multiple executions, design your final presentation and precisely describe everything. My fellow advertising/design people know that mocking things up is everything but quick. My advice here is, do things as you go, properly finalise and finish EVERYTHING at least a week before the deadline. If I had done that, I would have had more time to play around with it and improve it. I remembered many stupid, little things I wanted to edit but forgot after I, in panic, handed everything in. Don’t be like me, don’t panic.
However that being said, I am happy with the final piece. It shows my growth and is the best thing I have created during my studies. All three campaigns are great for my portfolio and I’ll continue working on them and improving them anyway.
I know “FMP” sounds very big, scary and final but it really isn’t. You have been practising for the past three years and you can figure out a bit of time management because all the necessary skills are already there!
