BeyondBNU: Launching Your Career
BNU School of Business and Law recently hosted a highly successful employability event, "BeyondBNU – Launching Your Career," on February 24, 2025. Organised by Senior Lecturer Suzanne Doria, the event provided students with a valuable platform to network with industry experts, recent alumni, and career advisors, offering invaluable insights into the professional world.
The event boasted an impressive lineup of speakers, including visiting alumni:
- Bianca Epuras, Product Development Intern at London-based beauty brand, .
- Mateusz Gajda, Learning Technologist at BNU
- Emilia Moffatova, Senior Demand Planner at
Industry representatives Harriet Clarke and Sarah Howes, Head of Talent Acquisition from , also shared their expertise and employability advice. The event was further supported by Andrew Markland, BNU's Employer Engagement Officer.
Chris Crouch from the kicked off the event with an engaging talk on the key skills employers seek in graduates. Following the opening remarks, students participated in breakout sessions, engaging in roundtable discussions with the speakers. This format fostered a dynamic environment, encouraging meaningful conversations and allowing students to ask specific questions and lots of connections were made.
Chris Crouch shared his positive impressions of the event: "It was a great pleasure to present and speak with the talented students from Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) at their recent employability event. Events like these highlight the importance of collaboration in preparing students for the future and ensuring they have the tools and connections needed to thrive in their chosen careers. What truly stood out was the supportive environment that BNU has cultivated. By bringing together alumni, employers, and professional bodies like the , the university is showcasing a clear commitment to student success. This collaborative approach ensures that students are not only equipped with theoretical knowledge but also exposed to practical insights and professional networks."
Sarah Williams, Head of the School of Business and Law, echoed this sentiment: “It was great to see such a good turnout for the School of Business and Law BeyondBNU employability event today. We heard from leading employers, including , the , and some of our fantastic alumni who returned to talk to students about their experiences of the job market and life after BNU. There was lots of lively discussion and students engaged with curiosity and positivity, which made it an enjoyable event!”
The speakers themselves were also impressed with the students' engagement and enthusiasm.
Mateusz Gajda commented, “The session went great, I was very impressed not only by the initiative that the students were showing but also by their insightful questions. I had some amazing discussions with the students. I can tell that they understand how dynamic the job market is nowadays and are taking right steps to ensure that they are able to enter their professional lives fully prepared.”
For Emilia Moffatova, the event was a rewarding experience: “This was a full circle moment for me. It felt good to give back and share my experience and hopefully inspire the next graduates.”
Harriet Clarke from added, “It was a pleasure to connect with the students and share our insights on starting a career in the retail industry. Our discussions covered topics ranging from taking the initial step into the workforce to the importance of finding a company that aligns with your values and goals.”
