Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2019, I had been working as a health visitor practice teacher (SCPHN HV CPT), supporting post-registration nurses and midwives on a one to one basis with the practice based learning elements of their specialist community public health, health visiting training (SCPHN HV). Whilst in this role I was seconded into the practice education team for some time, and I had the opportunity to work on service level projects, one of which was to design and teach a programme of education for staff working at a regional mother and baby mental health unit. Altogether, I worked as a health visitor for 12 years and as well as training and working as a practice teacher (CPT),  I also managed 2 teams of HV,s staff nurses, and nursery nurses, as a team leader for approximately 3 years.

Before becoming a HV, I worked as a senior staff nurse and clinical sister in children’s emergency departments for 6 years, where I was able to provide emergency nursing care as part of the accident and emergency team. I undertook my APLS (advanced paediatric life support) whilst there and became involved with the safety net working group which provided a link between A&E and the child’s GP and health visitor/school nurse for frequent attenders.

Since joining the University in 2019, I have undertaken academic teaching qualifications as a post graduate certificate of academic practice (PGCAP) and obtained my fellowship of the higher education academy (FHEA).

I joined the University as a Lecturer in Children’s nursing, and since 2022 I now am employed as a Senior Lecturer in Children’s nursing.

Currently I am studying for a masters in education (MA Ed) which is due to be completed in the summer of 2025.

My area of research currently is at the proposal stage. I am looking at how best to ensure that all student’s who join the University are able to access early support interventions for academic writing skills using a short peer marked piece of work.

I am registered with the NMC as a children’s nurse (RN (child), specialist community public health nurse – Health Visitor (SCPHN – HV), and a community nurse prescriber (CPNP).

I am a member of the Royal College of Nursing. I also hold membership with the IHV (Institute of Health Visitors), and have fellowship of the higher education academy (FHEA).

I teach across all campuses at the University, and across all nursing related programmes including BSc, RNDA and NAA.
