Dr Shatirah Akib
I am currently on secondment as Associate Professor with a focus on supporting the Director of Education duties in the School of Aviation and Security.
I was a Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead for Civil Engineering at School of Engineering and Built Environment, Buckinghamshire New University, Buckinghamshire.
Before Joining Buckinghamshire New University, I was Subject Area Leader in Civil Engineering in the Department of Engineering and Technology, School of Computing and Engineering at University of Huddersfield. Before moving to University of Huddersfield, I worked as Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, Nottingham Trent University. Prior to this, I worked as Senior Lecturer in the School of Science and Engineering at Teesside University before joining Nottingham Trent University.
Prior to joining Teesside University, I was Associate Professor at The School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) and Research Coordinator at Heriot-Watt University, Putrajaya, Malaysia branch. I worked as Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya, Malaysia before that. I worked as civil engineer in both consultant and contractor companies before continuing my postgraduate studies.
I have published in peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at both national and international conferences and I'm a manuscript reviewer for a number of journals. I've secured a number of research grants and funding from national and international bodies. Additionally, I was also involved in consulting engineering projects such as Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems/Blue Green Infrastructure, dam, pump sump, pump intake and water transfer. I am a graduate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and Fellow of the HEA. Dr. Akib is a member of The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and was a member of the Leadership Team of IAHR, Malaysian Chapter.
I have also graduated a number of PhD and MRes students in Hydraulic/Water Engineering and related inter/multi-disciplinary research areas. My research interests include Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Structure Engineering, Hydraulic/Hydrology and Water Engineering, River and Coastal Engineering, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems/Blue Green Infrastructure, Floating Structure, Net Zero Carbon & Net Zero Water, Circular Economy, Renewable Energy and related inter/multi-disciplinary research areas. I would welcome PhD applications in these research areas.
