Staff Profile

Lee Dickinson
Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2022, I was a police officer in Thames Valley Police (TVP) area, stationed mostly in West Oxfordshire. I joined TVP in 2008, spending around 7 years in a frontline response role, before moving into an Assessment Unit where I had responsibilities including triaging, allocating and filing new crime reports. For the final three years of my service, I worked in a detective role for the Priority Crime Team, specialising in investigating offences of burglary, robbery, and indecent images.
Prior to joining the police, I worked as a commercial property solicitor in Oxford for two years. On finishing my undergraduate degree, and before qualifying as a solicitor, I worked for four years in a defence law firm as an accredited police station representative, advising suspects in police stations on a broad range of criminal offences and immigration matters.
I studied for my law degree at the University of Warwick. I completed the postgraduate Legal Practice Course at the University of Exeter. More recently, I passed the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) at Buckinghamshire New University.
I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
My specialist area of interest is the investigation of crime, owing to my policing experience and previous work advising suspects in police stations. I am keen to carry out research on the cloning of vehicle number plates, which is a notable obstacle in the identification of suspects for burglary offences.
My career highlight is working in collaboration with Gloucestershire Police on a complicated conspiracy to burgle investigation, resulting in several members of an organised crime group being convicted of numerous residential burglaries across several counties.
