Staff Profile

Headshot of Buckinghamshire New University Senior Lecturer Ina Stan.

Dr Ina Stan

Biography

My academic career started at Buckinghamshire New University in 2004, initially as a PhD student, then as a research assistant and finally as a senior lecturer. Previously to this, I briefly worked for an international transport company and was also an English teacher in Romania.

I was awarded a PhD in Outdoor Education by Brunel University in 2008. I studied for my MA in Education and English Language Translation Studies at Babes-Bolyai University in Romania and for my BA (Hons) in Applied Linguistics in English and French at Transilvania University in Romania.

My specialist area of research focuses on the students’ learning experiences in higher education. My research aims to examine equality, diversity and inclusion issues that students might face, and enables students’ voices to be heard and understood, in order to inform teaching practice and adapt the curriculum to their needs to ensure their success at university.

I am a Fellow of the AdvanceHE (FHEA) and a Certified Practitioner of the Association of Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE).

My career highlight is running an Accelerated Foundation Year Programme during the Covid19 pandemic in 2020-2021. This programme was delivered entirely online, but was a success, despite all the difficulties that such a delivery entailed, as there was an 80% progression rate.
