At Buckinghamshire New University (BNU), the Centre for Excellence in Health Inequalities (CEHI) is dedicated to tackling one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time - health disparities. CEHI serves as a hub for innovative research, impactful advocacy, and meaningful community engagement, driving solutions that promote health equity locally, nationally, and globally.

Our mission is to lead transformative research that deepens understanding of health disparities, informs policy, and drives innovative solutions to promote health equity for all.

What we do

  • Conduct multidisciplinary research to identify and address social, economic, and environmental determinants of health disparities.
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research to improve access, experience and health outcomes.
  • Provide training and capacity building for the next generation of health inequality researchers and practitioners.
  • Advocate for evidence-based policies and interventions that improve health outcomes in marginalised populations.
  • Foster collaborations across academic, public, private, and community sectors to develop scalable and sustainable solutions.

Why CEHI?

Health inequalities are exacerbated by factors such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and access to healthcare services. CEHI unites experts from diverse fields - including nursing and midwifery, public health, psychology, digital studies, and social sciences - to address these challenges comprehensively.

Our partnerships with NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Systems, local authorities, community and international organisations ensure that our research is informed by real-world needs and delivers tangible benefits to those who need it most.

Key Initiatives

Supporting postgraduate students and early-career researchers with workshops, mentorships, and development programmes.

We've recently launched 'A Woman鈥檚 Labour collective', a new interdisciplinary space of coming together to explore, address and influence the rectification of inequalities related to gender and the concept of 鈥渓abour鈥. Find out more today.
