Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2023, I was a FE course leader teaching health & social care, health science, as well as A Level psychology. I was teaching and learning lead mentoring new teachers, driving improvements in teaching practices and student outcomes. This role focuses on individuals’ professional development, monitoring teaching quality, and ensuring alignment with school-wide goals and initiatives, whilst meeting Ofsted standards. Prior to my teaching I worked in NHS supporting children with chronic and complex health needs in the community as well as supporting children with their mental health by understanding their conditions, medication, whilst working closely with consultants, social workers, diabetic nurses, and other disciplines.

I studied for my BSc in Psychology at the university of Bedfordshire, my Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) with the Open University, my Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training at West Herts College, and my Associate Fellowship at Buckinghamshire New University, which lead to becoming a member of the HEA as an Associate Fellow.

My specialist area of interest is mental health and mentoring.  It is interesting because supporting and caring for patients showing empathy is a key part of nursing and healthcare. Making every contact count with patients informs a deeper understand of how physical and mental health are intwined. Mentoring is a role I have loved through my clinical and teaching experience, and I look forward to using my skills, interests, and passions at BNU.
